How To View QuickTime Videos

Most of the files here are best viewed in QuickTime 5.0 or higher. If you don’t have QuickTime installed, or have an old version, please click the Get QuickTime button and download a newer version — there is no charge for this software.

QuickTime depends on your preferences settings to download and display the appropriate version for your internet connection. If you have the wrong settings, you may end up viewing the low-resolution dial-up version instead of the version we have prepared for cable and DSL connections.

To make sure your connection is set properly:

  1. View any QuickTime movie on this site by clicking its link.
  2. With the movie window open, click the button at the far right of the controls at the bottom, and choose Connection Speed from the menu that appears.
  3. In the dialog, open the speed popup menu and choose a setting that corresponds to your internet connection, as follows:
- For normal dial-up modem connections, choose 56 Kbps Modem/ISDN
- For DSL connections (Telus, etc.), choose 512 Kbps DSL/Cable
- For cable modem connections (Shaw, etc.), choose 512 Kbps DSL/Cable
- Close the settings window.

If you find it takes too long to download and start a movie playing, you can change the setting at any time to a slower connection. On the other hand, if you want to view the highest resolution movies and don’t care how long it may take to download them, change the setting to a faster connection. NOTE: If you use a faster setting when you have a slow connection, it may take considerable time for the blue “Q” logo to be replaced with the movie window. Please be patient.
