THERAPIST AVAILABLE
*******************

Do you need a therapist?

I have been working as a part-time ABA therapist for approximately 10-11 months, and have experience with three very wonderful children at various points along the spectrum. One of the children I work with is doing so well that he will soon no longer need intensive therapy, and another child will be moving out of the community in the new year. Therefore, I am looking to provide my services to other children in need!

I have good play skills and can make the learning environment fun (as it should be!), I am very meticulous, and a very fast learner. I have experience with a wide variety of programming; I also have experience with communication through PECS. I am also more than willing to make stimuli for a team if need be. Most of my ABA experience has been on teams run by consultants Bohdanna Popowycz Kvam, and Michele Shilvock.

I currently live in the Burnaby/New Westminister area (although feel free to contact me if you are outside of this area), and am attending SFU as a fourth year Psychology Major, and Education (Counselling) Minor. I use public transportation, although I do have a valid driver's license.

If you are starting a new therapy program for your child, or if you are interested in adding another therapist to your team, I can provide a resume, references, and recent criminal record check upon request. Please see my contact information below:

DO YOU NEED A THERAPIST?

Hi everyone,

I am looking to provide part-time ABA-type therapy to children on the autism spectrum. I have recently moved to the Kerrisdale region of Vancouver and use public transportation.

Last year I worked as a full-time therapist for a 3 year old boy with PDD-NOS and we used ABA and RDI based therapy methods. I am also certified in PECS, can use signing, have some Hanen training, and am in the process of becoming BCAB ABA certified. I moved to Vancouver to take courses at UBC before doing a master's in speech-language pathology.

Please contact Jill at metersen@yahoo.com if interested. I can also send a resume with further information if requested.

Thank you.

hi everyone*

i'm just re-mentioning the nice red autism-support wristbands that are now available for 5$ each.

see them at-
http://featbc.org/Medicare_for_Autism_Now.jpg

i told my therapists about them and every member of our team decided to order one! if we all chip in, not only will we get the message out that we want "medicare for autism now," but we'll also help FEAT fund the information packages they send out to new parents who are struggling with how to begin helping their children...

please consider buying the bracelets-
(i'm also going to order them for christmas gifts...)
it's an easy way to do a lot of good for our children.

thanks everyone.
keep up the good fight-
we're making a difference evry day.

Hi Guys:

I just wanted to offer a little piece of information that was passed on to me by a friend who works in an insurance company.

I have a therapist/interventionist whom I just took down to a workshop in Vancouver. In doing so - I end up paying for the girls rooms, their food, travel, etc and the cost of the workshop.

When we arrived home on her following shift - the girl informed that she will be quitting and moving away. She told me she had planned on doing this for about 2 months prior.

I and my child were basically used so that she could add another workshop to her resume. My child will not benefit in anyway from the training that I just provided her. Yet I have no recourse to get that money back.

My friend who works at the insurance company says that before they are taken to any training that is expensive - they have to sign a contract saying that they won't leave for 12 months or they will have to pay for the costs of the workshop themselves.

It is something I will do in the future as I had NO idea this girl was leaving - none. The girl has been with us for almost 3 years.

Just thought I would pass along the info for anyone else so no other family/child has to lose money like this.

Barbara

How are you doing? It's C. I'm not sure if you still remember me but I was there a couple of months ago doing research on Autism. I just finished my Special Education Assistant course. I was wondering if you happen to have a list of private school for special needs kids of if you know of any schools who are hiring SEAs right now, both public and private. Or if there are any families who are in need of SEAs.

************THERAPISTS NEEDED***************

We have positions available for therapists to join our established team. Our 5 year old son has mild autism and has been in a Lovass ABA program under Lisa Wincz for the past 3 years. He is very fun loving and learns very quickly.

We are located in North Vancouver, in the Blueridge area, close to bus routes.

Previous experience with autistic children would be an asset but is not required. We would prefer someone who has trained under Lisa but will also be interested in individuals with a psychology or special education background. Initial training will be provided by our senior therapist along with follow up sessions.

Salary is negotiable based on experience. Applicants should have strong play skills, be able to commit for two 3 hour shifts/week, attend bi-weekly team progress meetings and periodic workshops, and also be committed to the team for at least one year.

Please e-mail resumes to headbunny@yahoo.com or call us at (604)929-8157.
